Description
Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also complete a Graduation ePortfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese Language and Culture, and Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors.
This course fullfills MLO6: Research and Technology
As of now (Spring 2022) I am currently enrolled in the WLC 400 Capstone class. This course is where I was put up to the task of utilizing the skills for my research paper that I was told I would need in SPA300 which was the pre capstone course. This course was a great way for me to begin organizing my thoughts and perspective that I have come up with for my topic of my Capstone which is the maintenance of culture and language represented in Chicanx literature. By this time, I was already a student for quite a while but I was new to more proficient forms of research that I had the chance to use in this course. In doing some of my other research for past papers and projects, I wouldn’t reach for my college library resources as a transfer student as much. Instead I was using Google Scholar and going on with my research from there even though some of the sources might not have been as helpful to my research. I assumed that as long as I stayed in a safe path of research, I would always somehow find good resources. However, in taking this course, I began to notice the difference in quality for my papers. I was no longer dependent on Google Scholar because I was beginning to use the resources my own University offered me for being a college student. I am aware that for previous semesters as well, Sarah Dahlen was a visitor in the classroom to help students navigate through these library sources and that was a very helpful lesson that I have been able to also use in my research. This library source is where I have actually been able to find the most helpful resources to my project that are also peer-reviewed which I now know are the most dependable sources that one could find when trying to complete this type of paper. Take a look at my Capstone Project, which is a result of taking this course.
