Description
This content-based course focuses on developing the three modes of communication - interpersonal, interpretive and presentational - with an emphasis on academic writing through readings and discussions. The use of authentic texts from Hispanic cultural and literary traditions allows learners to consolidate oral and written information. Taught in Spanish.
This course meets MLO1: Language Proficiency
This course contributes to my completion of MLO 1. The objective of this course was to demonstrate an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency. During the beginning of this course, I was reintroduced to the simplest writing forms of grammar of the Spanish language. After this, we utilized that review as well as prior knowledge to complete weekly assigned oral discussions on certain topics that we would touch on the week prior to the due date. These assisted in the practice of my oral responses as well as allowed me to demonstrate my proficiency level as it was graded on whether or not I completed the questions as they were assigned and stayed on topic during the entire discussion. Not only did we use lectures to make oral responses, we also completed various small essays about those topics. These essays were all written in the Spanish language and required intermediate level writing. For our final graded assignment, we were grouped with our other classmates to create an oral research-based presentation on a topic of our choosing from a list the teacher offered. We chose the topic of the role of the United States on women’s rights and were required to write a short essay in Spanish that was individually graded. Overall, I am extremely grateful for this class for the skills that I have acquired throughout the Fall semester of 2020 and I still use the skills I gained in that course today to improve in my Spanish writing and oral assignments.
