This course meets MLO3: Literary and Cultural Knowledge
In this course, students are introduced to many different Hisnpaic testimonials that give an insight into important topics or historical events that have occurred at the time they were alive. Hispanis testimonials are collections of recorded experiences whether it be their memories or stories collected from different people. In class, we focused orally on a lot of the historical backgrounds of the authors for those testimonials in order to understand their perspectives on social issues. This course fulfilled this MLO because of these historical backgrounds that pertained to many different Hispanic communities around the world. We as students were able to understand the impact that those events had and why it is important to record e=those experiences as they give insight onto certain conditions that they had to go through collectively. A lot of them centered around corrupt political systems in Hispanic countries and how their people were rebellious towards the government. They formed this collective memory of those events and thus gives students a great understanding of those cultural aspects through their literary works. For our final project, we were to pair up and create our own Hispanic testimonial through conducted interviews that our individual would have to answer. In collecting their experiences, we were able to form a collection of words from that individual that centered on the topic of what we were aiming to concentrate on. In this case, I concentrated on the impact of COVID-19 on a Hispanic community as it was a recent issue and it is still one we see today. Down below I have included the prologue to the testimonial.
